Thousands of fans. Long online queues. And plenty of people who missed out.
That’s how Wednesday’s first Powderfinger presale went. Now the band has done something about it. Extra dates have been added to the Powderfinger tour 2027, bringing the total to 24 shows across six cities, the ABC reports.
Remember, the reunion news only broke last Friday. Sixteen years after the split. Turns out a fair few people still want to hear “My Happiness” live.
What’s new
The band and Live Nation added the extra dates after the first presale saw “massive demand and long queues”.
Brisbane and Melbourne each got two more shows. That takes both cities from four nights to six.
In Brisbane, the new dates are Monday 6 and Wednesday 8 September at the Showgrounds. Perth got one more night. So did Sydney, the ABC says.
Where and when they’re playing
The ABC has the list. Double-check on the official ticketing site before you buy, though.
Brisbane kicks things off at the Showgrounds, with six nights: 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11 September. Then it’s up to Cairns. Cazalys Stadium gets two shows, on 17 and 18 September.
Perth is next, at Wellington Square on 24, 25 and 27 September. Sydney’s Domain hosts five nights, on 1, 2, 6, 8 and 9 October.
Adelaide fans get Ellis Park on 15 and 16 October. And Melbourne wraps it all up at Melbourne Park Oval, with six shows on 22, 23, 25, 27, 29 and 30 October.
Two nights in Cairns? Love that. Big tours often skip regional cities altogether.
Not your usual gig
These aren’t standard arena shows. The band is setting up what’s been described as an “epic, stadium-sized big top,” with curated food and drinks, according to The Music. There’ll be standing and seated tickets.
Missed the presale? Don’t panic
The first two presales, for the artist and Telstra, ran on Wednesday morning. Missed out? You “will have other chances”, fans have been told.
Next up is the My Live Nation presale on Friday 16 October.
General sale through Ticketmaster opens on Monday 19 October, The Music reports. On-sale times are staggered by city, so check your city’s time before you sit down with your coffee.
Keen? Get on the My Live Nation list before Friday. Log in to Ticketmaster early, and save your card details so you’re not fumbling at the last second. Have a second night in mind too, in case your first pick goes.
And stick to official sellers. Every time a big tour drops, the resale scammers come out of the woodwork.
No word yet on prices, by the way.
Why the rush?
Powderfinger haven’t toured since their farewell run in 2010. Their last show was at Brisbane’s Riverstage that November.
Grew up on “These Days”? Wore out your copy of Odyssey Number Five? This could be your one shot at seeing them live again. That explains the queues.
Where to from here
Will they add even more shows? The band hasn’t said. But if Friday’s presale is anything like Wednesday’s, nobody would be shocked.
So get your login sorted, and maybe warm up your voice for “My Happiness”. You’ve got about 11 months.
